Why did you rebrand from Divorce Financial Solutions to Clearwater Divorce Advisors?

After 15 years under Divorce Financial Solutions, continued support from attorneys and clients showed us there's an opportunity to expand both in Massachusetts and beyond, which led to our rebranding decision. Despite the risk of changing a well-established brand, the new name helps differentiate our expertise in the marketplace. "Clearwater" reflects our commitment to bringing clarity and transparency to complex financial decisions during divorce. As we expand our QDRO services nationally starting in 2026, we wanted a name that truly represents our approach—providing clear guidance when you need it most. This evolution represents the same trusted expertise you've always known, enhanced for serving even more families.

What's it like working as a family team?

Building a business from scratch has been highly rewarding, but sharing this growth and evolution together creates fulfillment on a completely different level. This is our business—we're not employees punching a clock, we're stakeholders with genuine pride in every outcome. Over time, we've both discovered that our clients need more than just expert analysis and timely service—they need support, understanding, and someone who truly listens during one of life's most difficult transitions. Every client interaction flows from authenticity—the genuine care and respect we have for each other translates directly into how we serve our clients. When they thank us for being there when they needed it most, it reminds us why this work matters so deeply.

What drew you to specialize in divorce financial planning?

While I was already a certified planner, I realized there's a massive need for financial guidance specifically in divorce. In traditional planning, if clients make investing mistakes, they can usually correct course over time. But in divorce, you get one shot to be right because asset division is permanent. We expect people to make smart, thoughtful financial choices during maybe the most emotional time of their lives. A planning client of mine years ago went through divorce and essentially gave in just to end the process, giving up much more than he should have. Seeing how stress led to poor financial decisions that would otherwise never be agreed to—that's when I knew we could make a measurable difference.

How do you connect with clients during such a difficult time?

We recognize that divorce overwhelms even people who typically handle complex situations well—it's not something you get practice at, so there's naturally a heavy reliance on trusted advisors. While others may focus primarily on process and timelines, we focus on the person first. We take time to understand your real priorities and concerns, not just the financial data. Clients often don't know exactly what they need when they first reach out, which is completely normal. Our role is to help you feel understood and more confident in your decisions by providing both the expertise and emotional support you deserve during this transition. When everything else feels uncertain, we're here to offer clarity and genuine guidance.

What do you wish people knew about divorce financial planning?

The biggest misconception is around the value of specialized financial guidance during divorce. We understand that divorce costs can feel never-ending, but working with divorce financial experts typically saves money in measurable ways—often far more than the fees involved. More importantly, divorce is one of life's most complex financial transitions, and you shouldn't have to figure it out alone. There are professionals specifically trained to help you make informed decisions that better align with your post-divorce needs and goals. Getting the right guidance early can make all the difference in your outcome.
